Hillhead Housing Association has celebrated the completion of its first new housing development at Meiklehill Road, Hillhead.
Designed by Hypostyle Architects, the scheme includes the first 'home zone' development that has received approval by East Dunbartonshire Council.
This is a unique design and has been developed on a continental model where pedestrians have priority over the motor car. There are 45 homes in total comprising a mix of family semi detached houses, smaller two and four in-a-block houses and two bedroom bungalows.
The majority of the homes have been let to tenants of the Association who were previously occupying flats at Newdyke Road which are being demolished in the summer as part of our second phase of new build.
The development has been funded by New Housing Partnership Grant from the Scottish Government at a cost of approximately £4.5m. The main contractor is Cruden Building & Renewals Ltd. The Design Team is led by Hypostyle Architects, and includes JR Queenan, Quantity Surveyors, Scot Wilson Ltd, Engineers and J Wilson, Clerk of Works.
The Opening was officiated by Cllr Rhondda Geekie, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council and ex local councillor, Mr Eddie McGaughrin. To commemorate the event a time capsule was buried by eight local school children from St Flannan' s Primary School.
