Progress is being made on initiatives including new housing on Islay and more widely across Argyll and Bute; worker accommodation in Tobermory; development of the Oban Airport Aviation Business Park; upgrades to Bowmore Hall on Islay; public realm investment in Dunoon; plans to transform the former Royal Hotel in Rothesay; and support for helicopter services serving Mull and Iona.
Policy Lead for Economic Development, Islands and Rural Communities, Housing, Councillor Jim Lynch, said: "This programme demonstrates the real difference targeted investment can make to communities across Argyll and Bute. The breadth of projects involved is helping us tackle some of our biggest challenges, including housing availability, economic growth, and supporting sustainable island communities.”
The package advancing through design and construction includes a £2 million Islay housing fund, a £1.9 million housing acquisition and resale programme, £1 million for worker accommodation in Tobermory, £7.4 million for the Oban Airport Aviation Business Park, and £4 million towards redeveloping the former Royal Hotel in Rothesay. Work on Bowmore Hall has already begun, with detailed development continuing across a range of other projects.
