A five-year construction programme at Persimmon Homes West Scotland's Fairfields development in Monkton has concluded, adding 286 new properties and leaving a broader community legacy.
Work began in 2020 and has transformed the site with a mix of homes from two-bedroom terraces to five-bedroom detached properties, aimed at first-time buyers, growing families and downsizers.
As part of the scheme, 50 homes have been transferred to Riverside Housing Association to support local housing need. Persimmon also invested more than £1.56 million in local education, alongside funding for traffic signal improvements and cycle storage facilities.
Through its Community Champions initiative, the housebuilder supported a range of local groups and events during the build, including Monkton Gala Day.
Heritage has been carefully integrated into the layout, with two listed structures, alongside the Monkton Windmill and Macrae Monument, preserved within the site. Working with Historic Environment Scotland and local partners, the plan protects these features while opening them to the public via new walkways and interpretation boards.
The project has also delivered a skills legacy, with apprentices starting their careers on site and gaining hands-on experience. Among them was Chantelle Muir, Persimmon Homes West Scotland's first female apprentice bricklayer from Ayr, who began her journey at Fairfields and has since achieved record-breaking success at construction competitions across Britain.
Chris Logan, Persimmon Homes West Scotland Managing Director, said "Fairfields has delivered much more than new homes. It has created a lasting community, protected important heritage assets and provided opportunities for young people to start their careers in construction.
"We're proud of the legacy this development leaves behind in Monkton and the wider South Ayrshire area."
Persimmon is progressing a number of further developments across Ayrshire.
