A new partnership agreement between Taylor Wimpey East Scotland and Wheatley Homes East has been finalised to deliver 34 high-quality affordable homes at the Letham Meadows development, located on the outskirts of Haddington, East Lothian.
The project aims to address the rising local demand for secure, affordable housing by offering a varied mix of properties. This includes 12 two-bedroom apartments designated for mid-market rent, alongside 22 social rent homes featuring two, three, and four-bedroom layouts.
Building work is currently in progress on the site, with the initial phase of homes scheduled to be completed and handed over in August 2026. Financial backing for the development is being provided via the Affordable Housing Supply Programme and the Scottish Government's Charitable Bonds programme, an initiative that grants loan funding to housing associations to boost affordable housing numbers throughout Scotland.
Management from both organisations have expressed their support for the contract, noting the advantages the new properties will bring to the local area and reaffirming their dedication to growing the regional affordable housing stock.
Abby Kelman, Interim Land & Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: "The support from the Scottish Government through the Affordable Housing Supply Programme and Charitable Bonds programme has been instrumental in enabling us to progress and finalise discussions to deliver these much-needed 34 affordable homes. Construction is already well underway, and we are looking forward to handing over the first properties in April this year."
James Ward, Wheatley Homes East Managing Director, said: "This agreement will deliver 34 high-quality, affordable homes for people in Haddington who need them most.
"Working in partnership with Taylor Wimpey East Scotland means we can increase the supply of social and mid-market rent homes, support local communities and help tackle housing demand in East Lothian. These energy-efficient homes will offer tenants warm, safe, modern places to live for years to come."
The forthcoming properties will feature a diverse selection of housing types created to accommodate various household needs, incorporating contemporary standards for accessibility and energy efficiency from the beginning of construction.
