Scottish Water has confirmed the selection of seven partner companies to assist in a multi-billion pound overhaul of Scotland's water and waste water infrastructure. The collaboration, known as 'The Enterprise', is set to manage the utility's most substantial investment cycle to date, covering the period from 2027 to 2033.
The joint venture aims to maintain Scotland's high standards of water quality, safeguard the environment, and modernise services for customers. This six-year delivery phase is central to an £8bn investment strategy detailed in the organisation's recently released 2027-33 Business Plan.
The companies appointed to work alongside Scottish Water within The Enterprise include:
- Primary Designers: Stantec and Aecom.
- Asset Delivery Partners: M Group Water, Mott MacDonald Bentley, Farrans Limited, WGM Engineering, and Ross-Shire Engineering.
Rob Mustard, Director of Capital Investment at Scottish Water, commented on the significance of the new arrangement: "The Enterprise is part of the most significant programme of investment and way of working we have ever implemented. It supports our goals of financial sustainability, service excellence, and going beyond net zero, all while contributing to a flourishing Scotland."
He added: "We're moving to an 'advanced partnering' model, shifting from traditional contracting to a more collaborative approach. This model brings partners together through agreed outcomes, ensuring we deliver value for our customers and innovation in every project. It represents a significant evolution in how we approach capital investments. It's designed to drive innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, aligning with our long-term goals of environmental stewardship and community enhancement. We're eager to partner with others to achieve these ambitions."
The investment is expected to stimulate the economy through the creation of both direct and indirect roles within the supply chain, providing various opportunities for young people.
In addition to economic benefits, The Enterprise has committed to social value initiatives. The programme is expected to provide 6,000 volunteering days and conduct roughly 426 educational visits over the six-year period to support community development across Scotland.
