A new 58-house development in Glenrothes has been completed ahead of schedule, providing a significant boost to Fife Council's efforts to address the regional housing emergency. Delivered by main contractor Robertson Partnership Homes, Viewfield Park has transformed a derelict brownfield site into a high-quality community of affordable and energy-efficient properties.
The development, which began in 2024, saw its final 12 units completed well in advance of the projected autumn 2026 deadline. The diverse range of housing includes four-in-a-block flats, townhouses, and houses ranging from two to five bedrooms. The project also prioritised inclusivity by including wheelchair-accessible and amenity bungalows.
Constructed with a focus on lowering running costs for tenants, each home features energy-efficient designs and solar panels. The development's commitment to safety and security has been recognised with the Secured by Design Gold Standard.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council's Housing Spokesperson, commented: "Completion of these new houses at Viewfield is an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, Council housing across Fife. Developments like this not only provide much-needed housing for local families, but also help create strong, sustainable communities."
The construction phase delivered substantial social and economic benefits to the local area, supporting 257 jobs and six apprenticeships. Robertson also facilitated work experience and training for an unemployed individual, leading to full-time employment.
Beyond the construction site, a strong partnership was formed with the neighbouring Glenrothes Strollers Football Club. In addition to donating sports kits and equipment, Robertson provided pro-bono maintenance services for the club, including joinery, plumbing, and rendering works.
Regional Managing Director Gordon Milne added: "Viewfield Park will continue this momentum, delivering a new neighbourhood that supports the Council's response to the housing emergency while boosting the local economy during construction and beyond. We're delighted to be continuing our relationship with Fife Council through further developments in Lochgelly and Dunfermline."
In a related move, Fife Council's Cabinet Committee has approved plans to acquire 10 new-build social rent flats and a commercial unit in Cupar. The Council will partner with Kingdom Housing Association for the 23-home development at Inner Court. Once complete, the commercial unit will be leased to the Fife Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations (FFOTRA).
