Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm has hosted His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh at its Operations and Maintenance (O&M) base at Montrose Port. The visit underscored the port's status as a critical hub for offshore wind on the east coast of Scotland and as the operational home for the nation's largest offshore wind farm.
Hosted by the Montrose Port Authority, the visit drew attention to the port's ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and its central role in the daily management of Seagreen. Located on the South Quay, the O&M base is responsible for the safe and efficient coordination of the wind farm's activities.
During the engagement, The Duke met with senior leaders from the Montrose Port Authority, SSE Chief Executive Martin Pibworth, and various Seagreen representatives. His Royal Highness also toured the Seagreen control room to learn about the complexities of managing offshore operations and logistics. The visit further served to highlight how offshore wind investment at the port is driving long-term skills development, employment, and infrastructure for future renewable projects.
Martin Pibworth, Chief Executive of SSE plc, said: "We were pleased to welcome The Duke of Edinburgh to our Seagreen Operations and Maintenance base in Montrose, and to highlight the exceptional work of the teams who operate this world‑class offshore wind asset every day. Seagreen shows what sustained investment and strong local partnerships can deliver. Our long‑standing relationship with Montrose Port Authority, alongside SSE's continued investment across Angus, has brought clear economic benefits to the area, while Seagreen plays a vital role in delivering secure, home‑grown clean power for Scotland and the rest of the UK."
Ewan Latimer, General Manager of Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm, added: "It was a pleasure to welcome His Royal Highness to our Seagreen operations base in Montrose and to showcase the vital role the port plays in supporting offshore wind. Offshore wind projects like Seagreen deliver far more than clean electricity. They support ports, create skilled jobs and bring lasting benefits to local communities, and we're proud to work in partnership with Montrose Port Authority to achieve this."
