Representatives from Scottish Borders Council, Eyemouth Town Team and Eyemouth Community Council gathered to mark the official start of work on a new pump track for Eyemouth.
The project is the opening phase of a wider £500,000 investment in the town through the Council's Play Parks and Outdoor Learning Investment Programme. A destination play park is scheduled for 2026/27 as the next stage of a programme designed to enhance outdoor recreation spaces across the region.
Construction began at the historic former playing field to the west of Eyemouth Primary School and is expected to take around 12 weeks, with the facility due to open for the start of the school summer holidays.
Designed by internationally recognised specialists Velosolutions, the scheme features a 145-metre asphalt pump track, a 45-metre dedicated jump line and a distinctive wall ride—a two-metre-high, banked timber slat structure built above the berm. Suitable for riders of all ages and abilities on bikes, scooters and skateboards, the wall ride will be the first of its kind in the UK when completed.
Ben Ingle, Eyemouth Town Team: "It's wonderful that such a high-quality track is being built here – the best in the Borders. It's been shaped by young people too, with 80% of them saying they wanted a pump track through the community engagement process."
Dixie Scott, Eyemouth Town Team and Sea of Change: "We are absolutely delighted to see work starting on the pump track. It's such an innovative design. This is the start of improvements that we have been pushing for in the community park."
