Work has begun to revamp the play area at Kinneil Estate, marking the latest stage of Falkirk Council's programme to upgrade playparks across the area.
Backed by £723,000 from the Play Park Renewal Fund in 2025/26, the programme is supporting improvements in multiple communities. The Kinneil project, costing £200,000, will add a variety of accessible play equipment to create a more inclusive space for children and families. Reflecting the estate's heritage and its proximity to the Antonine Wall, the design will feature a Roman theme.
The Council worked with the Friends of Kinneil group to gather local feedback and refine the plans. In 2025/26, 13 playparks across Falkirk have been renewed or upgraded, with 10 completed and three currently under way.
Michael McGuinness, Head of Growth, Planning, Sport & Culture said: "Playparks are an important part of our communities and it's great to see work underway at Kinneil to create a new and inclusive space for children and families to enjoy.
"Investment from the Scottish Government's Play Park Renewal Fund is helping us improve parks across Falkirk so more children can access safe, high-quality places to play close to home."
Recent upgrades include:
- Anderson Park: accessible equipment such as a trampoline, an inclusive multi‑unit with ramp access, a basket swing and a dome climber, plus new seating and wheelchair‑accessible picnic benches
- Victoria Park: an extension with additional kit including a trampoline, rope swing, zipline and a multi‑unit with a wide slide
- Gairdoch Park: new wet‑pour surfacing and inclusive features including swings, a trampoline, play panels and sensory elements
- Langton Road Park: now offering a pyramid climber, trim trail, swings, springies and a multi‑unit
Several sites have had partial upgrades. California Road Park, Anton Park, Dalgrain Park and Bellsdyke Park have each received new multi‑unit equipment, while Westfield Park now includes a wheelchair‑accessible roundabout and new swings.
Further works are scheduled at Coneypark and Greenpark Drive, where new equipment is due to be installed by April 2026, and at Easter Carmuirs Park, which will see a major upgrade begin in April 2026 featuring accessible surfacing and a wider range of inclusive play equipment.
Local children and residents have helped shape many of the improvements through surveys, school engagement and public votes on preferred designs. Community groups including Friends of Kinneil, Camelon Community Council and the Safer Youth Action Project supported the engagement.
Since the Play Park Renewal Fund launched in 2021, 38 playparks across Falkirk have been upgraded or renewed, broadening access to quality play spaces close to home.
