SSE has provisionally secured agreements for 3,581MW of de-rated electricity generation capacity for the 2029/30 delivery year, which spans from 1 October 2029 to 30 September 2030.
The provisional outcomes of the most recent T-4 capacity auction in Great Britain were released on Tuesday, 10 March. Across the market, a total of 40,108MW in agreements were granted to various capacity units, with the auction reaching a clearing price of £27.10/kW.
Within these results, SSE Renewables obtained provisional agreements for 935MW of de-rated capacity across its solar, onshore wind, and hydro portfolio. Meanwhile, SSE Thermal secured a 686MW agreement for its Keadby 1 Power Station situated in North Lincolnshire.
Additionally, several joint venture assets, in which SSE Thermal maintains a 50% stake, successfully secured agreements:
• Seabank Power Station: 1,120MW
• Saltend Power Station: 998MW
• Marchwood Power Station: 835MW
• Indian Queens Power Station: 130MW
Agreements were not secured for SSE's facilities at Peterhead, Medway, Burghfield, and Chickerell. However, the company confirmed that these results will not affect current operations, as these stations have existing capacity agreements valid until September 2029. There will be further opportunities for these sites to bid for agreements in upcoming auctions. SSE also continues to hold a 15-year agreement for Keadby 2, which began in October 2023.
These provisional results are currently awaiting final confirmation from the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
