Construction is officially underway at the site of the former Haghill Primary School, where The JR Group has begun works on a new residential development for Milnbank Housing Association.
The £12.4 million project is slated for completion in November 2027 and will provide 48 high-quality homes for social rent.
The technical scope of the project includes the construction of 43 general needs homes and four wheelchair-accessible amenity properties. A key architectural element of the scheme involves the comprehensive renovation of the former Janitor's House, bringing the historic structure up to modern energy efficiency and living standards.
Funding for the regeneration project is being provided through a combination of private finance alongside support from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government. Beyond the building footprint, the contract includes wider community benefits such as environmental improvements and investment into a local community facility.
Allan Scott, Chairman of Milnbank Housing Association, said: "We are delighted to see this development finally begin on the former Haghill Primary School site. These homes will help address significant housing supply issues in the local area and will help meet a wide range of housing needs."
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing and Development at Glasgow City Council, commented: "The development of the site at the former Haghill Primary is another great example of the homes that are being built in Glasgow now. The homes will meet the needs of a wide range of people and families and bring back the Janitor's House to productive use. These much needed and high-quality new homes for social rent will improve the quality of life of everyone who lives in them and will contribute to the regeneration of Haghill."
Gary McGregor, Managing Director of The JR Group, added: "We are delighted to have been awarded this project and for the trust the Housing Association have bestowed on our fantastic team. We are acutely aware of the importance of this project for the community and local residents, and we look forward to a successful partnership."
