Bidwells Bolsters Scottish Energy and Renewables Team

Property consultancy Bidwells has announced a significant expansion of its Energy and Climate service in Scotland, appointing two senior specialists to its renewables team.

The move comes as part of a wider UK growth strategy that includes the introduction of a new behind-the-meter renewables capability.

In Scotland, Helen Gray has joined the firm as a partner in Energy and Renewables. Moving from the Danish renewable energy specialist Ørsted, where she served as senior land and property manager, Gray brings extensive experience in managing the land and stakeholder requirements essential for large-scale projects. Her role will focus on the entire development lifecycle, covering site strategy, viability, and land assembly.

Accompanying her is Ross McLaren, who joins as an associate in Energy and Renewables. Previously with international developer Boralex, McLaren provides developer-side insight into the commercial dynamics of the sector, with a specific focus on next-generation infrastructure and repowering opportunities.

Helen Gray, partner, Energy and Renewables at Bidwells, said: "Scotland remains one of the most important markets in the UK for renewable energy development, and the pace of change across the sector is only accelerating. I'm delighted to be joining Bidwells at a time when clients need clear, commercially grounded advice to bring forward viable projects and secure long-term value from the energy transition."

Ross McLaren, associate, Energy and Renewables at Bidwells, added: "Having worked on the developer side, I've seen first-hand how complex renewable projects can be to deliver in practice. Bidwells has an exceptional platform in Energy and Climate, and I'm looking forward to supporting clients as repowering and next-generation infrastructure become increasingly important parts of the UK renewables landscape."

Alongside the Scottish appointments, Bidwells has launched a new Behind-the-Meter Renewables service line. This UK-wide initiative is headed by Edoardo Ruggeri, who joins as an associate from CBRE UK. Based in Cambridge, Ruggeri will lead strategies for onsite energy solutions, including battery storage and EV charging infrastructure, to help commercial and industrial clients reduce emissions and improve energy resilience.

Edoardo Ruggeri, Associate, Energy and Renewables at Bidwells, said: "Behind-the-meter renewables is one of the most immediate and commercially compelling opportunities available to property owners and occupiers today. I'm excited to be joining Bidwells to build out this new service line and help clients deliver projects that reduce emissions, strengthen energy resilience and generate measurable returns from their assets."

The expansion aims to provide enhanced advisory support for developers, landowners, and investors as demand grows for practical decarbonisation routes and resilient energy infrastructure across the UK.
