The development of the new Whitefields neighbourhood in North Dunfermline has reached a significant landmark as Taylor Wimpey East Scotland begins building the first homes at Whitefield Gardens.
This follows the recent Approval of Matters Specified in Conditions (AMSC) granted by Fife Council for the initial phase of 68 dwellings.
Whitefield Gardens is set to provide a diverse selection of two, three, four, and five-bedroom houses to suit a wide variety of homeowners. Reflecting the heritage of the location, the site will feature a character seating area constructed around an original dated lintel salvaged from the former Wester Whitefields farm buildings. The layout also includes incidental play areas designed to promote informal outdoor play for local families.
Extensive infrastructure works, both on and off-site, have been progressing for several months to support the long-term masterplan for the area. Once the project is fully realised, Whitefields will consist of approximately 1,400 new homes, a primary school, various shops, and community facilities. The plans also prioritise green space and enhanced transport links, including new footpaths, cycleways for safe school routes, and upgrades to Whitefield Road (B912) and Kingseat Road (West). Additionally, the site will integrate the Northern Link Road.
Environmental sustainability is a core focus of the new community. The development will feature meadow grasslands and equipped play zones, alongside biodiversity initiatives such as hedgehog highways and bird bricks to foster a sustainable living environment.
Pauline Mills, Technical Director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said the team is pleased to be moving into the construction phase: "Securing our first AMSC planning consent in November last year has allowed us to progress quickly into the construction phase at Whitefield Gardens, and we're pleased to see work on the first new homes underway.
"This is an important early milestone in bringing the wider Whitefields masterplan to life. And as we progress on site, each step in delivering new homes, infrastructure and community facilities helps turn our long‑term vision for a vibrant new neighbourhood in North Dunfermline into reality."
