The Inch Cape Construction Fund has celebrated a highly successful second year, supporting 20 separate community groups with awards totalling nearly £38,000.
The fund, which was established to support communities directly affected by the construction of the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm's onshore substation, has proven to be a powerful catalyst for local investment.
A key highlight of the 2025 activity was the fund's ability to leverage £411,000 in matched funding. This resulted in a remarkable "multiplier effect" for the local area: for every £1 awarded by the fund, an additional £5.02 was brought into the community.
Since its inception in February 2024, the fund has now supported 50 different community initiatives across Prestonpans, Cockenzie, and Port Seton, with total cumulative awards reaching almost £82,000.
2025 Funding Priorities and Impact
During the past year, the fund maintained a high success rate, with over 75% of applicants receiving support. The primary focus of the grants included:
• Children and Young People: The largest group of beneficiaries, supported through holiday activity programmes, sporting clubs, and employability schemes.
• Health and Well-being: A significant portion of funding was directed towards physical and mental health initiatives, including services for vulnerable groups and new recreational outlets.
• Poverty and Inequality: Projects aimed at reducing isolation and providing essential support services in areas where they are most needed.
Recent grant recipients for late 2025 include the Prestonpans Community Centre Management Committee, which received £2,000 for an outdoor gym, and the Lower Impact Living CIC, which was awarded £2,000 for a volunteer-led hedgerow restoration project.
Now Open for Year Three (2026)
As the project enters its third year, a further £45,000 has been allocated for distribution throughout 2026. The fund remains open for applications from community groups and charities based in Prestonpans, Cockenzie, and Port Seton.
