Turner & Townsend, the global professional services firm, has established a significant philanthropic partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).
The company has committed £82,500 to fund 10 new scholarships aimed at students pursuing careers in risk management and quantity surveying.
These scholarships are available to students within the University's Glasgow School for Business and Society as well as the School of Science and Engineering. The funding is designed to support recipients throughout the entirety of their four-year BA (Hons) and BSc programmes.
This latest contribution further bolsters GCU's 150th Anniversary Campaign. The initiative has already seen substantial backing from other major donors, including a £500,000 donation from Sir Alex Ferguson CBE and support from Turner & Townsend's own Dr Murray Rowden, an alumnus of the university.
The partnership is specifically designed to promote social mobility and widen participation within the construction industry. By removing social and financial hurdles, the programme aims to empower students from a variety of backgrounds, including those who are estranged or care-experienced.
As part of the 150th Anniversary Campaign, the Turner & Townsend scholarships provide more than just financial aid. Each recipient will benefit from a structured support package that includes a financial stipend, professional mentorship, a bursary for internships, and a guaranteed opportunity for travel.
Peter McGettrick, Operations Lead, UK at Turner & Townsend and a GCU alumnus, said: "We're delighted to partner with Glasgow Caledonian University to create fantastic opportunities for young people to forge pathways in the sector and break down societal barriers.
"Investing in skills is a central value for us at Turner & Townsend, as the industry works to overcome the shortage it faces today and create a dynamic workforce built for success in the long term.
"We're looking forward to seeing how these scholarships, together with the 150th anniversary campaign can support the next generation of leaders who will go on to transform industry and society."
The donation was officially announced during the School of Science and Engineering Annual Celebration. The event, which highlighted the school's research and industry successes, was hosted by broadcaster and GCU alumna Dr Laura Boyd.
Jillian Watt, Director of Advancement and Communications at GCU, added: "We are deeply grateful to Turner & Townsend for their generosity and vision.
"These scholarships will transform lives, ensuring that students who face financial and social barriers can access opportunities designed to empower them to thrive.
"Their commitment amplifies the impact of our 150th Anniversary Campaign and demonstrates the power of philanthropy to shape the future of both industry and society."
