The University of Glasgow has announced a major joint venture partnership with the Plenary Group to fund and execute the next stage of its extensive Campus Development programme.
Following a competitive tendering process, Plenary was selected to lead a strategic consortium that includes Royal London Asset Management as the senior debt provider and Arlington Collegiate UK, who will serve as the student accommodation operator. The partnership is set to initially deliver four key projects with a total value of approximately £180 million, focusing on the continued regeneration of the University's land along Church Street in Glasgow's West End.
The development aims to provide high-specification residential housing for students alongside two bespoke Innovation Hubs. These hubs are intended to facilitate the commercialisation of world-class research by supporting start-ups, spin-outs, and spin-ins. Planning consent has already been granted by Glasgow City Council for the first three projects, which include student residences and an Innovation Hub dedicated to dry lab and office space.
This latest phase follows a decade of significant investment across the Gilmorehill campus, which has already seen the completion of the James McCune Smith Learning Hub, the Mazumdar Shaw Advanced Research Centre, the Clarice Pears building, and the Adam Smith Business School. Work is also progressing on the £300 million Keystone building, which is scheduled to open in 2028 as the second-largest structure on the campus.
Professor Andy Schofield, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, said: "We are delighted to partner with the Plenary-led consortium on the next stage of our landmark Campus Development program. This phase builds on more than a decade of investment in our campus, creating world-class teaching, research, and social spaces alongside vibrant community areas. Through this development, we will bring our vision for Church Street to life; establishing a hub for collaboration, innovation, and partnership, where we work closely with partners to amplify the impact of our research."
Richard Osborne, Head of UK and Europe for Plenary Group, added: "Plenary is delighted to be collaborating with the University of Glasgow and our consortium partners on our first project in Scotland. Our experience in forming long term partnerships with universities around the world makes us ideally placed to deliver the University's vision for the Campus Development program."
