Renfrewshire Council has awarded a contract to MacKenzie Construction Limited to deliver the Ferguslie Park Greenline - Belltrees project, marking a significant investment of more than £600,000 as part of the area's long-term regeneration.
The project is a key element of 'The Making of Ferguslie', a community-led framework focused on transforming underused land and enhancing greenspaces. Construction is expected to begin in January 2026 and be completed by Summer 2026.
The works will restore 2.69 hectares of derelict land to create a new green corridor, including:
• A new multi-functional greenspace, natural play trail, and event space.
• The construction of two new shared pedestrian and cycle routes, providing essential links to local schools and services.
• Enhanced biodiversity through native planting and better grassland management.
• Drainage improvements to effectively manage surface water during rainfall.
Councillor Andy Steel, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, welcomed the progress: "This project will bring back into use a significant piece of land for residents and visitors to enjoy and it follows on the back of the new Neighbourhood Centre activity space being created which is already extremely well used by local people."
The project is jointly funded by the Scottish Government's Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme (VDLIP) and Place Based Investment Programme, alongside the UK Government Strategic Prosperity Fund.
This infrastructure delivery follows other visible results from the regeneration program, including the completion of 101 new council homes and the transformation of the area's former derelict buildings and land into community assets.
