The final piece of the Glentress Masterplan will be in place next week when Forestry & Land Scotland (FLS) formally opens the new skills area to the public on Tuesday, 8 October 2025.
The £6 million investment was designed to reinvigorate Glentress as an attraction, broadening its appeal to all visitors. The new skills area features a mini mountain biking zone, roller zone, cornering zone, and technical zones, all designed to safely encourage and assist young, novice, and inexperienced riders to develop their skills.
John Dougan, FLS' South Region Manager, thanked everyone involved in the "huge effort" required to make the Masterplan a reality. He noted that while Glentress has already accommodated UCI world Championship events, the team has worked hard to make it an inclusive destination "with something for families, young people, new and novice riders, adaptive riders and, of course, the wider mountain biking community."
Paul Andrews-Garth, FLS Project Manager, confirmed that the latest milestone marks the end of the Masterplan but the beginning of the next chapter for the multi-use destination. The Masterplan delivered over 16 kilometres of new dedicated mountain bike trails for all abilities, alongside accessible multi-user pathways and new routes into the forest for walkers, wheelchair users, horse riders, pony trekkers, and cyclists.
The success of the Masterplan, along with the Forest Holidays lodges, is demonstrated by the growing visitor numbers, cementing Glentress as a world-class visitor destination.
