SSEN Transmission is reviewing its plans for the A832 cable route to minimise disruption to road users.
The move comes in response to feedback received from local communities regarding the necessary works to replace or upgrade 37 culverts.
While an earlier rerouting of the cable has already reduced the length of the road affected by 50km, SSEN is now exploring further options. These include single-lane closures with traffic management, extended daily access, and overnight working to lessen the impact of the work, which is required ahead of the installation of the underground cable section of the Western Isles HVDC Link.
An update on these proposals is expected in the coming weeks, and in-person engagement sessions will be held in October.
Niall Macleod, Project Director for SSEN Transmission, thanked the public for their feedback and acknowledged the challenge posed by the "terrain, topography and space constraints" along the A832 section. He confirmed that the company is actively seeking solutions to minimise disruption.
The project is committed to delivering long-term benefits, with the affected road to be resurfaced and crash barriers replaced once the work is complete, enhancing road safety and resilience.
