McLaughlin & Harvey has been appointed as the main contractor for the refurbishment of Midlothian Council's headquarters in Dalkeith.
The £12.6 million project, which is expected to take around 18 months to complete, will involve restoring the exterior of the building and transforming the ground floor into a modern 'one stop shop' for council services.
The refurbished space will provide residents with access to housing, revenues, and benefits advice in a single location, and will also incorporate a new Dalkeith Library and Arts Centre.
Midlothian Council Leader, Cllr Kelly Parry, said the refurbishment is a "much-needed, cost-efficient project" that will improve services for residents. She added that the project is largely being funded by savings from selling or repurposing other buildings, including Fairfield House and the existing Dalkeith Library, along with efficiency gains from energy improvements.
Barry Bryce, Operations Director at McLaughlin & Harvey, stated that the company is committed to preserving the building's character while creating a modern, energy-efficient space.
