Clark Contracts has delivered four refurbishment projects for the University of Glasgow, with individual values ranging from £200,000 to £2 million.
The works included the relocation of an existing semiconductor laboratory within the Rankine Building and the refurbishment of a mass spectrometer laboratory in the Molema Building. In addition to the scientific spaces, the company carried out a refurbishment of offices on levels two and three of the university’s iconic Category A listed Gilbert Scott Building. This involved extensive down takings, redecoration, and general refresh works.
At the university's historic Professor Square, Clark Contracts also refurbished the Law Workshop. The project introduced a fully accessible, clearly defined and branded entrance and reception area. It also included the installation of gender-neutral toilets and improvements to welfare and relaxation facilities.
Two of the completed schemes, the Rankine Building semiconductor laboratory and the Law Workshop, have been shortlisted for 'Refurbishment of the Year' at the 2025 Learning Places Scotland Awards, set to take place in November.
Clark Contracts has been part of the University of Glasgow’s Minor Works Framework since 2006 and has delivered multiple projects across the institution’s Gilmorehill campus. The main contractor is currently on site with three additional projects for the university.
Gerry Cummins, Director at Clark Contracts, said: "Having worked with the University since the 90s and delivering over £25m of projects in recent years, we have developed close relationships with the Estates team and look forward to continuing to work together on numerous projects in the coming year."
