The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has confirmed a substantial £39 million investment over the next three years (2025-2028) in its National Construction College (NCC) sites located at Erith, Bircham, and Inchinnan.
This funding aims to enhance the construction industry through an expanded training offer, high-quality teaching, and strong leadership in the training sector.
The redevelopment work at the Erith site is already in progress, with £11m allocated for the current year out of a total £30m investment planned for the site over the next three years. Decommissioned buildings were demolished in April 2025 by contractors appointed through Crown Commercial Services (CCS). The project at Erith includes constructing new training buildings and installing advanced technology to support the College's growth and sustainability objectives. Training will continue uninterrupted throughout the development.
Overall, the CITB is investing over £15m in the NCC estate for 2025-26, with a strong focus on sustainability. This investment will enable an expansion of training provisions across all three NCC sites, increasing the range and volume of apprenticeship and commercial training opportunities available. The NCC plans to introduce new programs and pathways developed in line with industry needs, aiming to become a preferred training provider for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Kirsty Evans, Executive Principal for NCC, commented: "Our vision for NCC is to support the construction industry by expanding our training offer, delivering high-quality teaching and learner support, and collaborating with the wider industry to maximise our impact." She added that the NCC is already observing positive results in high learner retention and achievement rates, reflecting a strong culture of quality.
The National Construction College is committed to continuing its support for the industry by delivering an expanded range of quality apprenticeships and other training programs in areas of critical need. This investment is intended to ensure that the NCC remains at the forefront of construction skills training, contributing to the industry's sustained growth and development.
