Members of the public are invited to participate in a statutory consultation regarding plans for Dogger Bank D, a proposed fourth phase of the 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm currently under construction.
The project, a 50:50 joint venture between SSE Renewables and Equinor, would be located approximately 210km off the coast of England in the North Sea.
This consultation phase, which opened on Tuesday 10 June, will detail the offshore and onshore proposals for Dogger Bank D, alongside preliminary environmental assessment outcomes. The plans encompass offshore infrastructure for renewable electricity generation and associated transmission infrastructure.
Offshore, the project proposes an array covering 262 square kilometers with up to 113 fixed-bottom offshore wind turbines. It also includes up to two offshore platforms and associated export and inter-array subsea cabling. These cables would export power to Britain's national grid at a landfall point near Skipsea, East Riding of Yorkshire. From Skipsea, underground cables would transmit the renewable power along a 55-kilometer route to an onshore converter station near a new National Grid Electricity Transmission substation, Birkhill Wood, north of Hull, near Cottingham. The project also explores the potential for co-locating Energy Storage and Balancing Infrastructure at the proposed onshore converter station site.
These proposals follow extensive environmental studies and feedback gathered during earlier engagement stages. The eight-week statutory consultation period welcomes public and interested community parties to review the plans and provide comments until 11:59pm on Tuesday 05 August.
Sophie Large, Senior Project Manager for Dogger Bank D, expressed enthusiasm for public engagement. "It's important to us that local communities share their deep knowledge of the region and continue to review, and be informed about, our plans," she stated.
The consultation includes six in-person events and two online sessions. A Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR) and a Non-Technical Summary (NTS) of the PEIR, outlining potential environmental effects and proposed mitigations, are available for review.
In-person consultation events will be held at the following locations and times:
• Tuesday, June 24: Skipsea Village Hall, 3:00pm – 6:30pm
• Wednesday, June 25: Leven Sports Hall, 2:00pm – 7:00pm
• Thursday, June 26: Cottingham Civic Hall, 10:00am – 2:00pm, and Walkington Village Hall, 3:00pm – 6:00pm
• Friday, June 27: Toll Gavel Church Hall, Beverley, 10:00am – 2:00pm
• Saturday, June 28: Beverley Memorial Hall, 10:00am – 2:00pm
All consultation materials, including brochures, maps, and feedback forms, are available to view and download from starting June 10. Hard copies and alternative versions can be requested directly from the project team via email at contact@doggerbankd.com or by calling the freephone number at 0800 254 5029. Materials can also be viewed or collected from designated community access points; checking opening hours before visiting is advised.
Feedback from this consultation will inform the final application for a Development Consent Order for up to 1.5GW of installed offshore wind capacity at Dogger Bank D. The project's delivery is contingent on securing this order and a final investment decision from SSE Renewables and Equinor.
