A new 58-bedroom care home in Anniesland, Glasgow's West End, is progressing well and is set to open its doors later this year.
Construction has been underway since August 2024 by Glasgow-based firm CCG (Scotland), in an innovative joint venture with Morrison Community Care Group, a leading UK care home developer.
The partnership focuses on identifying and transforming brownfield land into private care accommodation for individuals over the age of 65. The Anniesland facility, located on Anniesland Road adjacent to Yarrow Recreation Club, is one of four such projects currently under construction across Scotland's Central Belt.
Each development is purpose-built according to a defined design blueprint to meet localised demand for residential, nursing, and dementia care services. The homes are designed to offer a warm and welcoming environment, featuring a wide range of integrated amenities. Future residents in Anniesland will benefit from private, en-suite bedrooms, dining rooms with meals prepared by professional chefs, a cinema room, hair salon, champagne bar, visitors’ café, and landscaped grounds.
David Wylie, Managing Director of CCG (Scotland), commented on the progress: "Despite the challenging nature of the site, our Contract Team has done an excellent job, and I am delighted with the progress made to date. Key to our success – on this site and others like it – is the integration of our in-house expertise. Our core main construction and manufacturing divisions work seamlessly with our building services and utilities contractors, as well as our joinery, plumbing and flooring teams, to offer a comprehensive, one-stop-shop approach to delivery." Wylie also extended thanks to the design team members: Holmes Miller, Cowal Design, Design Me, and CRGP.
The partnership between CCG and Morrison Community Care Group dates back to 2017, formally establishing Morrison Community Care (CCG) Holdco Ltd in 2021. Morrison Community Care, a family-run business, has expanded from a care operator into a developer, with sites under construction across Scotland, England, and Ireland.
Paul Sokhi, Managing Director of Morrison Community Care Group, highlighted the personal significance of the Anniesland project: "Morrison Community Care began its journey in Anniesland. Our very first care home opened on Anniesland Road in 1988, not far from where we are now, and over a 20-year period, we formed a strong and lasting relationship with the local community."
Sokhi noted that while the return to Anniesland marks growth for his company, it also underscores persistent challenges. "Like many areas across Scotland, Anniesland is experiencing a growing ageing population, yet continues to struggle to meet localised demand with a shortage of care home beds and carers, adding to the pressure on our already overburdened NHS," he explained. He concluded by stressing that while new care homes reflect his company's commitment, "more work needs to be done across the UK to help unlock development and support our elderly population."
