SSEN Transmission, the high-voltage electricity transmission owner, has announced it has achieved its highest score to date for stakeholder engagement, securing a 95% rating in the 2025 AA1000 Healthcheck conducted by independent global consulting firm AccountAbility.
This marks the fourth consecutive year the company has earned a top rating, reflecting a significant seven-point jump from last year's 88%.
The AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard is widely recognised as the 'gold standard' in stakeholder engagement accreditation. SSEN Transmission's sustained performance maintains and strengthens its position in AccountAbility's highest 'Advanced' stage of the Maturity Ladder. This achievement fulfils an important commitment the company made to reach this level by March 2026, the end of the current RIIO-T2 price control period set by energy regulator Ofgem.
The comprehensive AA1000 Healthcheck involves a thorough review of stakeholder engagement practices and processes, including direct interviews with stakeholders to gather feedback.
Christianna Logan, SSEN Transmission Director of Customers and Stakeholders, expressed her delight at the results: "I'm delighted with this year's result - a 95% score in AccountAbility's Healthcheck. It's a 7% jump from last year and our highest score since we started this journey in 2020. Getting over 90% in all six areas and moving up in the ‘Advanced' category really shows the strength of our approach and the effort everyone is putting in across our business. As our engagement work keeps growing in scale and complexity, it's brilliant to see that we're improving year on year."
Logan also underscored the importance of independent validation, particularly as SSEN Transmission moves into the next phase of engagement for its substantial £20 billion 'Pathway to 2030' investment programme. This programme follows one of the largest and most impactful public consultation exercises undertaken in the country. "With more eyes on what we do than ever before, it's great to have this independent assessment to demonstrate the quality of our engagement," she said. "The hard work doesn't stop here; as we head into the final year of the RIIO-T2 price control period, and prepare to deliver our Pathway to 2030 programme, we need to keep listening carefully, adapting and acting on what we hear, and making sure stakeholders feel genuinely involved in the decisions that affect them."
