The Regional Growth Prospectuses from the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) and The Crown Estate outline how coastal regions across the UK can significantly expand their roles in the rapidly growing offshore wind supply chain.
These plans aim to create and sustain an additional 10,000 new jobs, supplementing the 100,000 already anticipated in the industry, and are projected to boost the UK economy by over £25 billion by 2035.
As part of this national initiative, The Clean Energy Cluster, the national voice of Scotland's offshore wind supply chain, has released its own regional prospectus. The cluster's goal is to enhance business development, foster innovation, facilitate knowledge transfer, drive skills development, and boost the global competitiveness of Scotland's renewable energy supply chain.
Emma Harrick, Director of Energy Transition and Supply Chain at Scottish Renewables, who leads the Clean Energy Cluster, highlighted Scotland's advantages.
"With our strategically located ports, renowned engineering expertise and a strong culture of innovation, we are beginning to attract the significant investment needed to accelerate the development of offshore wind," she stated.
The Scottish prospectus details the country's wealth of renewable energy expertise, with immense potential in areas like the Highlands and Islands with their deep-water ports, Aberdeenshire's world-class energy and maritime capability, Fife's manufacturing expertise, and the Central Belt as a hub of innovation. Ms Harrick described the prospectus as a "rousing snapshot of our world class capabilities underscoring the size of the opportunity that is set to come our way."
