Bield Housing and Care, a leading provider of housing and care services for older people across Scotland, has launched a recruitment campaign to appoint new voluntary Board Members. The organisation is seeking individuals with strategic expertise across various fields, including a specific call for professionals in the construction sector, to help guide its ongoing transformative five-year strategy (2023-2028).
At a pivotal moment for the organisation, which supports over 5,000 tenants across more than 170 developments, Bield is seeking expertise to help deliver its ambitious vision. Key strategic aims include enhancing independent living, driving digital transformation, improving environmental impact (including energy efficiency), and leading in new housing development and personalised care – areas where construction and development knowledge is particularly vital.
New Board Members will play a crucial role in contributing to Bield's vision of a Scotland where people of all ages are respected, empowered to make their own choices, and live fulfilled lives within their communities.
Paul Edie, Chair of the Bield Board, commented: “Providing high-quality housing and care is one of the most meaningful challenges facing Scotland today, and we need passionate, forward-thinking leaders to help guide our response. This is a rare opportunity to shape policy and practice at the very top of one of Scotland's most progressive housing organisations."
Bield is inviting applications from individuals with experience in fields such as older people policy, finance and treasury, housing regulation, development and construction, corporate transformation, HR, and technology.
Board members Katie Smart, Graeme Russell, and Angus MacRae shared their positive experiences. Katie Smart, a recent appointee, noted being "fully welcomed" and "invested in supporting Bield to provide the best services to our customers whilst ensuring we can deliver on our long-term commitments." Graeme Russell, a long-serving member, highlighted his belief that "everyone, irrespective of their background, should have access to a well-managed, well-maintained and affordable home." Angus MacRae spoke of seeking a rewarding voluntary role after retiring from private practice and being "immediately drawn to Bield’s ambitious business development plans and sector-leading initiatives like TAPPI."
While applicants may be based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, or Dundee, Bield employs a mix of in-person and virtual formats for Board meetings to encourage broad participation.
Interested candidates should note that the closing date for applications is Sunday, 26 May 2025.
