Glasgow City Council's Inner East Strategic Development Framework (SDF), adopted in October 2023, is driving significant regeneration across the area from High Street to Carntyne, Tollcross, and Dalmarnock. The framework, aiming to create "distinct, vibrant, well-connected and climate-resilient neighbourhoods," has seen several key projects advance in the past year.
The Gallowgate Transformational Regeneration Area (TRA) has progressed with the transfer of land at Wyper Place to Wheatley Homes Glasgow, supporting the development of 70 affordable homes on the former Bellgrove Hotel site.
In Parkhead, a Major Town Centre, work is underway on a Town Centre Action Plan (TCAP), expected to be completed later this year. This plan will focus on placemaking to create a sustainable 20-minute neighbourhood and serve as a template for other town centres in the Inner East.
The recently opened Parkhead Hub, a major primary care development, now provides a range of services, including mental health, addictions support, and community facilities.
South Dalmarnock's Integrated Infrastructure Framework Masterplan has been refreshed by Clyde Gateway, guiding planning proposals and reflecting recent regeneration works.
Public realm improvements are underway on Duke Street and John Knox Street through the Avenues Plus programme, funded by Sustrans, which includes new cycleways, footpaths, and landscaping.
In Shettleston, Fuse Youth Café received funding to develop a Local Place Plan, which will align with the Inner East SDF and influence future city development plans.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing, Development, Built Heritage and Land Use at Glasgow City Council, stated: "The progress being made through the Inner East Strategic Development Framework can be seen across the area with a wide range of housing, community, health, public realm and other projects either complete or underway. We will continue to work with our partners in this part of the city to take forward the development of the Inner East to deliver the vision for the area and bring benefit to the people who live and work there."
The Inner East SDF is one of six such frameworks in Glasgow, with others covering the City Centre, Govan-Partick, Greater Easterhouse, North Glasgow, and the River Clyde.
