The Highland Council's Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Area Place Plan has been approved, providing a roadmap for future development and construction projects within the region.
The plan, developed with significant input from local communities, addresses a range of critical issues, including:
• Housing: The urgent need for suitable and affordable housing options for residents.
• Tourism: Managing tourism in a way that prioritises the needs and well-being of local communities.
• Connectivity: Improving digital connectivity and public transport options within the region.
• Demographic Challenges: Addressing the increasing age gap within the population, focusing on the needs of both young people and older residents.
• Health and Wellbeing: Enhancing access to and the quality of health and wellbeing services, including mental health support.
Councillor Biz Campbell, Chair of the WRSL Committee, emphasised the importance of community involvement: "This APP truly reflects the aspirations of the local communities. We must now work diligently to secure funding and support to implement these priorities."
Campbell also acknowledged the valuable contribution of the Wester Ross UNESCO Biosphere team in leading the consultation process and developing the plan.
The approved Area Place Plan will now guide future development and decision-making within the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh area, ensuring that the unique needs and aspirations of the local communities are considered and addressed.
