Argyll and Bute Council has welcomed the appointment of Robertson Construction Group as the preferred main contractor for the new Mull School Campus project.
This significant milestone marks a key step forward in the North Schools Programme, a collaborative initiative between Argyll and Bute and other local authorities to deliver modern learning environments.
The new Mull campus, estimated to cost £43 million, will be a major investment for the island. A "call for sites" appeal has resulted in a shortlist of potential locations, including sites in Tobermory and central locations on Mull.
A detailed technical assessment of these shortlisted sites is currently underway, considering factors such as cost, risk, transport impact, and community feedback gathered during the public engagement exercise. The shortlist of potential sites will be made public in February 2025.
This project represents a significant investment in the future of education on Mull and will provide modern, fit-for-purpose facilities for learners and the wider community.
Councillor Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education, said: "We welcome the announcement by Hub North Scotland that we now have a preferred contractor in place to progress an ambitious 2-18 campus for Mull.
"Whilst we continue to assess suitable sites, we are reassured that we now have a main contractor on board and we are in a position to move to the next phase of the project.
"Robertson Construction Group has a solid reputation for delivering high quality facilities and placing the community at the heart of everything they deliver. Their appointment marks another important milestone for the project and we look forward to working with them to develop our plans."
Elliot Robertson, Chief Executive Officer, Robertson Group, said: "The creation of the community campus on Mull is an excellent opportunity to work again with Argyll and Bute Council to showcase the capabilities of our team, particularly within an island environment, and to continue our relationship with hub North Scotland.
"The development will play a vital role at the heart of the community and as a responsible business we aim to leave a lasting legacy through the delivery of social and economic benefits.
"As we work with hub North Scotland and Argyll and Bute Council to take this project to the design phase and prepare for delivery, central to our approach will be to involve the community every step of the way."
