A collaborative effort between Balfour Beatty and The City of Edinburgh Council is underway to restore the historic North Bridge.
The 125-year-old bridge, a Category A listed structure, is a vital transportation link in the city centre. The refurbishment project aims to preserve the bridge's structural integrity and ensure its continued use for generations to come.
Construction on the North Bridge began in 1897, and the structure serves as a vital transportation link in Edinburgh's city centre. The refurbishment project, budgeted at £18.5 million, is designed to address the bridge's aging infrastructure and ensure its continued use for "current and future generations," according to the City of Edinburgh Council.
The project will encompass a variety of works, including:
• Stonework repairs and cleaning
• Refurbishment of the bridge's waterproofing system
• Improvements to the undercroft area, located beneath the bridge's roadway
• Upgrades to drainage and lighting systems
The City of Edinburgh Council expects the refurbishment project to be completed in 2027.
