Rescheduled major refurbishing works to the eastbound half of the Longacre Bridge, carrying the M8 motorway over Craigens Road, will now take place over the weekend of October 25-28.
Transport Scotland's operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out what will be the second phase of the refurbishment after adverse weather conditions halted plans to progress with the bridge works over the weekend of October 18-21.
Previous works by BEAR Scotland included the successful refurbished and re-waterproofing of the westbound half of Longacre Bridge, which carries the motorway over Craigens Road between Junctions 5 and 6.
To facilitate works to be completed to the eastbound half of the bridge this weekend, M8 traffic will be managed under a contraflow system affecting both directions between Junctions 5 and 6 between the hours of 8.30pm on Friday, October 25, to 6am on Monday, October 28.
Motorists are being reminded to plan ahead and expect long delays. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions but traffic will be directed to use the hard shoulder and nearside lane, with the offside lane being closed, with a temporary speed limit in place for the safety of motorists.
"The project is essential to ensuring that this motorway structure continues to provide a safe and reliable service for years to come," said David Bishop, BEAR Scotland's South East Unit Bridges Manager.
"We thank motorists for their patience and understanding and recommend that they check the latest travel updates, plan ahead and allow extra travel time for their journeys during these works."
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
