Stonehouse Flood Prevention Works Continue

Scottish Water has announced a major investment in a second project to help prevent sewer flooding in Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire.

From Monday 17 July work will begin to install a new sewer pipe along parts of Queen Street, across King Street and into the car park of the Cander Centre.

The five-month-long project will further protect the village from sewer flooding following the recent completion of a £2.5 million sewer upgrade centred on the primary school.

Scottish Water's corporate affairs manager for the west, Georgina Reid said: "Sewer flooding when it occurs is extremely distressing, so this project is great news for customers in Stonehouse.

"The existing infrastructure is old and requires improvement and we are pleased this significant investment will provide addition resilience to the network serving the local community."

The work will be split into three distinct phases:

• Phase 1 – New sewer in Cander Centre car park which will be closed for approximately six weeks

• Phase 2 – New sewer across King Street. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation

• Phase 3 – New sewer along Queen Street. A short section will be closed near the junction with King Street

Georgina added: "We appreciate the impact this kind of work has on a small community, and we will do all that we can to work with residents and businesses to minimise any disruption.

"We would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding while we deliver this much needed project."

All traffic management arrangements have been agreed with South Lanarkshire Council.

The project is being delivered by alliance partner Caledonia Water Alliance.

Water supply and drainage services should not be affected.
