Amey Appointed For Essential A77 Road Works Scheme

Construction News Image
Amey has been appointed to carry out essential road maintenance works on the A77 at Dutch House Roadabout from Friday 14 January, 2022.

The works are being carried out on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit.

This scheme, with a value of £127,000, will benefit around 8,796 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out using a full weekend closure of the A77 Dutch House Roundabout circulatory and exits. To facilitate this, a series of temporary additional route closures and diversions will be in place - the A77 southbound will be closed after Symington, the A77 northbound will be closed from Sandyford Toll and the A78 will be closed in both directions between Monktonhead Roundabout and Dutch House Roundabout.

During construction, signed diversion routes will be in operation as follows:

• A77 southbound traffic will be diverted at Bellfield Interchange to join the A76 and then onto the A719. From here, traffic will re-join the A77 in a southerly direction via Sandyford Toll. Local traffic intending to travel towards Kilmarnock or Irvine will be diverted at Junction 8 from the A77 onto Glasgow Road and Western Road.

• A77 northbound traffic will be diverted at Sandyford Toll to join the A719 and then the B730. Traffic will be able to re-join the A77 in at northerly direction at Bogend Toll. Traffic intending to travel on the A78 will be diverted onto the B7038 via Riccarton.

• A78 southbound traffic intending to join the A77 will be diverted at Warrix Interchange to follow the A71, Hurlford Road. At Bellfield Interchange, traffic will join the A76 and will then join the A719 to Sandyford Toll to join the A77 carriageway. Local traffic intending to travel to Prestwick or Irvine via the A78 will be able to do so as normal.

Local access will be maintained for Symington and Hansel Village from the A77. Hansel Village residents will be escorted through the works via the A77 southbound. Access to the BP Monkton, Premier Inn, Brewers Fayre Restaurant, and Caravan Park will be granted via Kilmarnock Road at Monkton. Glasgow Prestwick Airport will remain accessible throughout from the north via the A78 at Monktonhead Roundabout and from the south via the A79 from Prestwick.

Mobile VMS will be strategically placed in Hurlford and Kilmarnock to allow road users to make informed decisions about their route. Reduced speed limits will be in operation on the A719 and B730 with parking also be temporarily suspended on the B7064. Mobile CCTV and recovery vehicles will be in operation to provide resilience during the closure. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Due to the nature of this scheme, road users are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys. We thank road users for their patience while this essential maintenance is underway.

Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government's COVID-19 guidance.
