South Lanarkshire Council have announced the start of a major resurfacing works in Lanark, as part of their £126m Roads Investment Programme.
Marking investment of almost £300,000, resurfacing will be carried out on Wellgate and Castlegate during October and November, with both roads to be closed for up to five days.
To reduce the impact on commuters the Wellgate improvement work will be carried out during the school October break when traffic flows are significantly lighter.
Signed diversion routes will be in place during both sets of work as follows:
• Saturday 13 October for up to five days: Wellgate between South Vennel and High Street. Diversion via A743 High Street, Bannatyne Street, St Vincent Place, Ladyacre Road, A73 Hyndford Road and Wellgatehead.
• Monday 04 November for up to five days: Castlegate between Hyndford Place and Friars Lane. Diversion via A743 High Street, A73 Bloomgate and Friars Lane.
Chair of the Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: "These works are essential to improve the road surfaces on a longer-term basis and, unfortunately, can't be carried out without some inconvenience to road users. We would ask that anyone travelling in any of the areas during the times mentioned pays particular attention to the diversion routes which will be clearly signposted. Every effort will be made to complete works in good time to enable the roads to be reopened to traffic."
