Scottish Water has invested £5m to improve and protect the coastal waters around the Holy Loch and parts of the Firth of Clyde in Argyll and Bute.

The project began in October 2017 and has involved upgrades to the existing sewer infrastructure and the construction of underground septic tanks in Toward, Rhu, Innellan, Kilmun and Strone – work here is expected to be completed in the next three weeks.

Work recommences in Kilmun on Monday 04 February 2019 near to The Old Kirk on the A880. Scottish Water's alliance partner amey Black and Veatch (aBV) have instructed Storie (Argyll) to undertake this work which is expected to last approximately three months.

Temporary traffic lights and parking restrictions will be in place along the A880 during this time. Full pedestrian access will be maintained and the bus service in the area will continue to operate.

The final phase of investment work in Kilmun is expected to begin in May 2019. It will take place on the A880 in Kilmun near Alderburn Place and is anticipated to last approximately three months.

Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water's corporate affairs manager, said: "When complete, this upgrade work will help ensure that our network continues to serve customers and protect the local environment for years to come.  It will be fantastic to see these final two sections of the wider investment programme in Argyll and Bute completed."

Paul Milligan, amey Black & Veatch Communication Manager said: "During this project we've worked in collaboration with Argyll and Bute Highways to do all we can to reduce the impact of the works on the local community.

"Work has been phased to reduce the impact on journeys along the A880 and we've designed the new infrastructure to ensure that all work can be done under single lane closures meaning all routes will remain open with no full road closures required."

He added: "We'd like to thank the residents of Kilmun for their understanding and cooperation while these essential works are carried out. We would also like to thank commuters from further round the peninsula in Strone, Blairmore, Ardentinny that have to commute through the works for their patience. We're sure they'll welcome the news that we're in the final phases of this work and the temporary traffic lights will be removed once all work has been completed."
