North Lanarkshire Council welcomed the latest Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) report, which confirms that their housing service is achieving high rates of performance.

Their work in the categories of homes and rents; tenant satisfaction; quality and maintenance of homes; neighbourhoods and value for money was rated by the regulator.

North Lanarkshire Council is Scotland's largest local authority landlord with responsibility for a housing stock of over 36,000 homes and one of only 12 local authorities not required to undertake any follow up action. This is a significant achievement for the service when it's considered alongside the large housing stock we manage.

The SHR report compares the performance of all social landlords in Scotland against a set of standards which social landlords should be achieving for tenants and residents. Tenants are asked to tell them what matters most to them when it comes to their landlord's performance.

The report shows:

• Their weekly rents are 19.9% below the Scottish average. The average rent for their properties was recorded at £61.20 pw as opposed to the Scottish average of £76.20.

• In the neighbourhood category 97.7% of antisocial behaviour cases were resolved compared to the Scottish average of 87.9%.

• The quality and maintenance of their homes also compared favourably. For example, 95.5% of the homes met the Scottish Housing Quality Standard as compared to the Scottish average of 94.2%. They completed 97.3% of reactive repairs 'right first time', higher than the Scottish Average of 92.2%.

• Tenant participation stats show that 85.2% of tenants were satisfied with the overall tenant participation service, compared to the Scottish average of 90.5%

• They took an average of 22.3 days to re-let homes, compared to the Scottish average of 30.7 days. This means they are ensuring houses are ready quicker for tenants to move in.

Convener of Enterprise and Housing, Councillor Allan Graham, said: "Reports like this one allow tenants to compare their landlord's performance across Scotland, and it's pleasing that year on year our tenants and residents are receiving quality, and improving, housing services.

"One of the areas where we've made significant improvements in our tenant satisfaction levels. The tenant satisfaction figures used by the regulator were taken from a biennial exercise of 400 face to face tenant surveys carried out in 2016. Since then a further survey this year and results show improvement.

"These show 93% of tenants are satisfied with us keeping them informed (Scottish average is 92.2%); opportunities to participate in North Lanarkshire were rated 93% (Scottish average 86.4%) and satisfaction with management of neighbourhoods was 94%, compared to the Scottish average of 88.5%.

"We now have a new tenant participation team in place to continue to ensure our tenants are at the heart of everything we do here in North Lanarkshire. I would urge people to contact us, work with us and participate to make North Lanarkshire the place to live."
