Wood Group's SgurrEnergy business has been appointed to help deliver Europe's largest onshore wind power project.
The 1,000 MW Fosen Vind scheme comprises of six onshore wind farms in central Norway on the peninsula of Fosen, the island of Hitra and in Snillfjord. Overall, the development will produce enough electricity for up to 170,000 homes when complete.
The Glasgow-based SgurrEnergy team will undertake the installation of 29 guyed lattice met masts, data monitoring and analysis for the site calibration phase. This will be followed by the installation of power monitoring equipment fitted to a number of the wind turbine generators for the power curve test phase.
It is expected that the wind farms, which will generate 3.4 TWh power annually, will be completed and commissioned by 2020.
Robbie Gibson, director of asset management at Wood Group – clean energy, said: "We are very pleased to be working with Statkraft on this important project, which is one of the largest of its kind.
"PPT allows you to compare the actual power curve for a wind turbine to the warranted power curve provided by the wind turbine manufacturer, and to ensure that the manufacturer corrects any sources of underperformance."
