Glasgow City Council has approved proposals to temporarily close a museum for refurbishment works.
The Burrell Collection is to shut in October 2016.
The museums refurbishment project will see the roof, building fabric and interior/exterior ageing plant completely overhauld.
A number of galleries in the Grade A building have already been closed due to the danger of damage to objects and paintings posed by water ingress.
Plans include to redevelop the museum from a building with a large carbon footprint into an energy efficient, modern museum.
Basement stores displaying the museums 9,000-strong collection will be open to the public for the first time, while a new central core will be created.
Visitors are to also benefit from a new learning space, improved café and retail opportunities and landscaped terraces.
The work will also include looking at the possibility of linking the Burrell to a micro hydro-electric scheme, generating energy by harnassing the power of the White Cart river.
