South Ayrshire Council has announced it will develop a new leisure and community facility in Girvan and South Carrick.
A funding award of £400,000 from sportscotland provided the final piece of the £5 million capital cost to build the facility.
The council has committed a full £4 million investment in the new facility.
The partnership project between the council and South Carrick Community Leisure (SCCL) will 'transform' the harbourside in Girvan and the leisure facilities available to the public.
Features will include a 25 metre swimming pool, soft play area, a fitness gym, a flexible multi-purpose studio and a café.
Council Leader Bill McIntosh said: "It has taken a long time to get here, but we're now in a great place with an outline design and specification that can be built with the monies we have available to us.
Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland, said: "I am delighted that we can award this project £400,000 that will create more and better opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity."
Further funding for the leisure facility was provided by the following organisations:
• Scottish Government Regeneration Capital Grant Fund - £250,000.
• Carrick Futures - £250,000.
• Hadyard Hill Community Benefit Fund - £100,000.
• ScottishPower Renewables' Kilgallioch Wind Farm - £100,000.
• The William Grant Foundation – £50,000.
