The investment of £17m in roads resurfacing and pothole repairs in Inverclyde is delivering improved performance, according to a report by the Council's Environment and Regeneration Committee.
The announcement follows the agreement of a three-year budget including £17m capital investment for carriageways, footways, street lighting and structures. The Council says the percentage of outstanding potholes has improved by 68% to December.
Inverclyde’s Environment and Regeneration Convener, Councillor Michael McCormick, said: "The Scottish weather and heavy traffic will always take its toll on the roads network. The additional investment means a planned approach to resurfacing work across Inverclyde and that should help to reduce the short term fixes required on our roads. These results reported to committee are showing the early results of that three year plan to deliver a once in a lifetime improvement in roads. It’s worth recognising that our roads network across Inverclyde is long enough to take us from Greenock to Gretna and back."
