A £2.2m transformation of Bridgegate Public Realm in North Ayrshire has been awarded for its innovative design and architecture.
Architects Austin-Smith:Lord worked on the project, which scooped the title of 'Town Centre Regeneration Project of the Year' in the Scottish Property Awards last week, celebrating the best new commercial and public property developments in the country.
North Ayrshire Council commissioned the works in partnership with Irvine Bay Regeneration.
The work was finished in 2013 and the design has upgraded the heart of the town with a natural stone public realm, artworks and streetscape improvements.
Councillor Marie Burns, Cabinet Member for Economy and Employment, said: "This award recognises just how much the project has transformed the centre of Irvine. The new-look Bridgegate is already drawing more people to the town as footfall data shows there has been an increase in visitors since the work was completed.
"However, the work is part of a much wider investment programme in our Vision for Irvine which aims to provide a positive future for the town. Many congratulations to all involved."
