A total of 323 new homes could be constructed on the site of a former hospital in Aberdeen.
The development, proposed by Stewart Milne Homes, Barratt East Scotland and NHS Grampian, would be located on the site of the former Royal Cornhill Hospital in the city.
The plans involve demolishing the former hospital buildings and constructing 89 homes and 198 flats in its place, while the five Upper Hospital buildings would be converted into 36 flats. Associated car parking, open space and new access routes into and out of the site would also be delivered, while open space will be maintained in the site's parkland setting.
On Thursday, Councillors voiced their support for the plans, subject to conditions. It is understood the approval is dependent on a legal agreement to secure a 25% affordable housing provision; 15% of which would be delivered on site, while developer contributions are also proposed linking primary education, community, library and sports and recreation facilities. The agreement would also see a developer contribution towards road junction works in the event that the development goes ahead, before the planned Berryden Road corridor widening programme has been completed.
The Berryden Road is earmarked as the main access point into the site, with a secondary access point on May Baird Avenue which would be restricted to emergency vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
Commenting on the proposals, Councillor Andy Finlayson, Committee Vice-Convener, said: "We have waited a long time for an acceptable scheme to come forward for this site. City council planning officials have worked hard to negotiate the best possible scheme in terms of open space, layout, designs and affordable housing provision, and I am pleased that it is moving forward at last."
