West Dunbartonshire Council has confirmed it is to consult with the local community regarding the planned regeneration of Clydebank East.
The plans would involve community consultation on proposals ranging from a full demolition to a partial demolition and refurbishment of 336 properties in the area. There is also the possibility of delivering new council properties.
Currently, the Clydebank East housing area comprises of 270 multi-storey flats within three blocks at Edmonstone, Howcraigs and Newshot Courts, plus 66 flats within four maisonette blocks at Clydeholm Terrace, Yokerburn Terrace and Hamilton Terrace. However, 158 of these properties are vacant and classed as "poorly performing".
A proposed regeneration would see the local authority work with tenants and residents to develop a housing-led regeneration strategy for the area, which would be delivered over a three-year period.
Councillor David McBride, West Dunbartonshire Council's Convener for Housing and Communities, said: "These properties are very difficult to let as there is almost no demand for them. They also cost a considerable amount to maintain, not to mention the loss of council tax and rent due to the large number of empty properties.
"I believe that the development of a regeneration strategy with local residents is the best way forward for the Clydebank East area."
The drop-in event will be held within the coming weeks, with an ongoing consultation to follow.
