Plans to develop a wind farm in Wigtownshire have been withdrawn, it has been reported.
It had been proposed that an 18-turbine development would be constructed at Airriequhillart, between Port William and Wigtown. However, EDF Energy Renewables has now confirmed that it has dropped the plans.
A spokesperson for the energy provider is quoted as saying that the site was no longer "technically viable".
Dennis Garry, onshore development manager, said: "In the case of the site at Airriequhillart, we collected over two years' worth of data and, having reviewed the results, we have come to the conclusion that the site would not be viable from a technical point of view.
"We would like to extend our thanks to all those locally for their patience and for the feedback we received during our investigations."
More than 1,000 people had signed a petition in opposition to the proposed development. It was part of a three-year campaign launched by local residents.
