Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has confirmed a section of Dunsdale Haugh Road is to close from Monday (24 November) in order to allow essential road works to be carried out.
The road works are part of advanced works for the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme. The road will close between the entrance to Oregon Timber and the entry to Riverside Mills in the area. The closure is expected to be in place until Friday 19 December. A diversion will be in place for motorists.
Explaining the closure, Conor Price, Project Manager of the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme, said: "It is hugely disappointing that we have had to request this full closure of a stretch of Dunsdale Haugh.
"The works had been designed to avoid this situation but the ground conditions we have encountered under Dunsdale Haugh mean that it would not be possible to undertake the works – which require trench supports to be put in place to secure the excavation – and ensure the safety of the road.
"The project team is currently reviewing the programme to try and deploy additional resources to this location. We hope that it will be possible to complete this section of work and reopen this stretch of road as soon as possible."
