Moray Council has confirmed that a public hearing into plans for a western link road in Elgin is to continue.
The first day of the hearing, which is taking place before the local authority's planning and regulatory services committee, involved presentations on behalf of the council, who support the development, and representatives of those who oppose the scheme.
Resuming today (13 November), Councillors will now begin to discuss the project.
If approved, the scheme would see Edgar Road extended to meet the south end of Witter Drive, while a new road bridge would be built over the Aberdeen-Inverness railway line. In addition, a new signalled junction would be created where Witter Drive meets the A96 trunk road at West Road.
Hundreds of objections have been raised regarding the scheme, with many referring to the grounds of increased traffic Edgar Road and Witter Drive, as well as noise pollution and the potential visual impact on residential properties that would be situated along the route.
Those in support of the scheme, however, have argued that it will help to ease traffic congestion in Elgin and promote economic development.
