Work to extend car parking facilities at Lockerbie Station has commenced.
The project, which has been commissioned by the South West of Scotland Transport Partnership (SWestrans), begins today (10 November).
It will be managed by Dumfries and Galloway Council's DGFirst department.
The scheme is expected to take around eight weeks to complete and will see an additional 31 parking spaces created at a site adjacent to the British Legion building on Well Road.
A spokesperson for SWestrans is quoted as saying: "The additional parking spaces will be welcome, as there is currently significant pressure on the existing car parks, and on-street parking in the area.
"This, and a subsequent phase of work within the station car park itself, will eventually create approximately 50 additional parking spaces. However, during this phase of work, the current informal parking at the British Legion site will not be available.
"We would urge rail travellers to consider carefully whether they need to drive to the station, and if they feel they do, to ensure that they leave plenty of time to locate a safe and legal parking space.
"Police Scotland have been asked to monitor on-street parking during the works to ensure that there continues to be safe access to Well Road in both directions."
