Fresh delays could hit roadworks in the Galashiels area, ahead of the opening of the Borders to Edinburgh railway line, it has been reported.
The Winston Road in Galashiels has been closed for more than a year while work on the ambitious project is being carried out. It was due to reopen to motorists in September, but the deadline was missed. It was then reported that the road was scheduled to reopen this week, but again, it looks like this target will not be met.
According to reports, waterproofing work is running behind schedule and as a result, it will be at least another week before the road can reopen to traffic.
Network Rail has said the delay is due to bad weather.
The works at Winston Road have involved excavating "tonnes of material" which has lain under the road for at least four decades. The removal of the material was necessary in order to allow the new railway bed to be built at the correct level, and then for a new road bridge to be constructed over the railway.
The Borders to Edinburgh railway is due to be completed and operating in September 2015.
