Grohe has released the findings of a recent survey, highlighting what people's bathrooms might look like in 20 years time.

The company surveyed more than 1,000 people, as well as looking at international trends and developments, to compile its 'Bathrooms In 2034 - The Centre Of New Living Universes' report.

The report highlights four four potential futuristic bathroom styles:

• The Zero Emissions Bathroom: The trend for energy efficiency is said to be expected to grow in the coming years, and Grohe has said it believes this bathroom will be "designed as a power station in its own right", including things such as a heat recuperator and water treatment technology, which would enable it to use waste water to generate warmth.

• The Multi-ID Bathroom: Offering functionality to every member of the family, a wash basin that could change into a makeup studio, or a mirror that doubles up as a television. Settings such as lighting would also be adjusted when a user walks into the room, to match their personal taste.

• The Healthness Bathroom: Interestingly, almost half of those polled spoke of the need for a bathroom that meets their physical health needs. Grohe has said this bathroom of the future would aim to make monitoring an individual's medical status as easy as possible. For example, toilets would be able to analyse a person's urine, while toothbrushes will collect saliva samples. This data could then be used to inform the user of the state of their health.

• The Selfness Bathroom: This bathroom will focus on what many already associate with the bathroom - 'me time'. Using aromatherapy, relaxing imagery and spa-like facilities, the modern chill-out bathroom will "take users on a journey to another world".
